The “New Normal” – Work/Life Balance

The “New Normal” – Work/Life Balance

As life slowly begins to return to “normal”, many people will be looking at their lives and reevaluating what elements they want to ditch, and what they want to keep. Being away from our loved ones has been difficult, and we’re now valuing those connections more than ever. Conversely, trudging into a 9 to 5 office job five days a week no longer seems like all it’s cracked up to be.
If you’re looking for ways to get a better work/life balance, we’re here to help you on your way. We know that it takes a big leap of faith to restructure your life, but we guarantee, the results will be worth it. Here’s the first steps you need to take to create a life that works for you.

Step 1: Weigh up your priorities

The first step to creating a better work/life balance is to evaluate your priorities. On paper, make a list of the non-negotiables that you want to structure your new life around. It could be study, family, socialising, whatever is important to you.
If you could create your dream life, what would that look like?

Step 2: Consider evening work

Evening work. What a drag, right? Think again!
While it isn’t for everyone, it’s well worth considering whether evening work could be an option that works for you. By working in the evenings, you leave your days free to enjoy the sunshine and pursue other passions. Evening shifts are perfect for anyone who loves a lie in, has things they’d rather be doing during the daytime, or who wants to be right in the middle of the nightlife buzz.

Step 3: Set your own hours

Imagine a job where you could decide when and where you worked. Well, you’re in luck! There are a number of jobs that allow you to set your own hours and create a schedule that works for you. The gig economy is thriving, but there are other, more reliable ways to earn an income while getting the best work/life balance.
The Hospitality Company provides all of our staff with access to an app that lists when and where the next availability is for hospitality work. Once you’ve been approved as a member of our team, the flexibility is totally in your hands – so you can start tailoring your week to suit you.

Step 4: Do something you enjoy

“Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
― Mark Twain
Yep, that old chestnut. If you work in a job that you genuinely enjoy, you’re getting the ultimate work/life balance. Whether it’s the job itself, the atmosphere, or the people you work with, nothing beats that feeling of looking forward to being at work. Life’s too short to live for the weekend – instead, find a fulfilling job that opens you up to new experiences.

Step 5: Get in touch

If, after plotting out what does (and doesn’t) work with your ideal work/life balance, you’re interested in pursuing a career in hospitality, get in touch with our team. Our events and hospitality staff work predominantly evenings and weekends around their other interests but have the freedom and flexibility to create a schedule that works for them.
