The Hospitality Company has been working with the young (and young at heart) in London’s hospitality industry for years, and one of the best parts of our job is watching those who are new to the city, discover it for themselves.
However, London is a fairly big place and we know that making the move isn’t a decision to be taken lightly. So, with that in mind, we’ve put together a guide to Life In London, so you can see for yourself just what you’re missing out on.

Life In London, The Lifestyle
Unlike much of the UK, London is a place where you can dictate the type of work/life balance that works best for you, not the other way around. Want to work all week and party all weekend? Want to study and fit work around your course? Looking for a job that lets you pursue your true passions? There’s no shortage of businesses looking for hospitality staff to work evenings, weekends and events (and we would know)!
A huge part of why we created The Hospitality Company is that we could see businesses struggling to find experienced hospitality staff, despite there being plenty of people looking for work. Although hospitality isn’t rocket science, it does take a lot of skill, especially if you want to work for an established company. That’s why we’ve put together courses that teach you the core skills you need to work in the industry, and to make living your best life in London a reality.
How Expensive Is Life In London?
How long is a piece of string?! Really though, the cost of living in London can vary hugely! The main thing that you’ll need to factor in is accommodation costs, as this will make up the bulk of your outgoings. A two-bedroom apartment in the city can easily run into the thousands, while a flatshare in Zone 5 can come in at closer to £500 including your bills.
Before embarking on your new life in London, it’s worth weighing up your priorities. Are you willing to pay more to live closer to the city? Or would you rather save money and have a longer commute? How many people are you willing to live with? And what are your non-negotiables? Understanding where you can save, and where you need to spend will ensure you’re set up to enjoy all the new opportunities that come your way.
That London Vibe
Undeniably, the best part of London is its cosmopolitan atmosphere. From the hustle and bustle of Chelsea’s high-end shops, to the bohemian, arty vibes of Dalston, there’s something here for everyone. The city isn’t just a financial hub, it’s also home to some of the country’s best aspiring artists, actors and musicians, and is rich in diversity, education and passion, in large part thanks to the 300,000+ students that live here.
And it isn’t just the people that make it so special. London is home to more museums, art galleries, clubs, pubs and restaurants than you can shake a stick at – thank goodness for businesses like ours, hey?! In fact, there’s always something going on here, whether it’s a huge music event or the opening of a funky pop-up cafe on your walk to work – the city is always changing.
There really is no better place to start your working life than in London. So, if you’re ready to make the leap but need to improve your job prospects, or are already here and are looking for a better work/life balance, The Hospitality Company has you covered.
